Joys of life

My little one has her headphones plugged into wifey’s 5800 Xpress music. She is listening to “Country Roads” by John Denver. Not just listening too, she is belting the tune out at great volume, with the occasional Air Guitar routine thrown in. Nice to hear , her singing genes ,thankfully, are inherited from the Mom’s side:-)

So different from a year or so back when I was wading in pools of misery. Where have all the dark days gone ? The nature of human mind must be such that a few months of good times and you begin to wonder what the fuss was all about during the not-so-good times .

Here is the song :

Daddy, I wanna be ………

I am sitting in my living room, reading the morning newspaper when my little princess strolls right up to me and declares

Princess : “Daddy, I want to act in a TV serial”
Daddy : …………………………………………………………………
Princess : You know, I want to do something else also
Daddy Thinks : ( Finally she is going to say what she really wants)
Princess : “I want to become a reality TV judge”
Daddy : !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess you can figure out what my daughter watches on TV by now !!

Wonder what she wants to do next ??

I remember that I had clear ambitions of becoming a bus driver. Sort of satisfied,  don’t you think , from the following evidence ? link-1, link-2 and link-3 :)

Random Thoughts

I suppose all of us have had moments in our life when we thought what the whole point of our existence was . What is your calling in life ? Is it to work in a certain company ? Is it to help people ? Is it teaching ? Writing ? I will turn 32 shortly and I still have not figured out what exactly I want to do.

Occasionally comes the moments of despair when everything seems hopeless, followed by moments of peace and harmony when the world seems a perfect place to live in. Is it just me, or is rest of the world also like this ?

One thing you always hear people say is Life is all about choices. Can you really tell which of those choices were really made by you, with no other incidents/persons influencing you ? None, I bet. So does that really mean that I have been just a pawn ever since my birth, with everything programmed to happen in a certain way ? I would like to think otherwise. I am getting into The Matrix territory here :-) , which happens to be a movie that I absolutely hate.

I can tell you one thing life that is absolutely precious. Taking a walk with your 4 year old daughter and just listening to her shooting questions and comments at you non-stop. The world through the eyes of a 4 year old is so refreshing. I know it sounds very cliched , but it is surprisingly true !!

Taking a break

After a May month in which I probably saw more emotional ups and downs than is usual for the whole year, I have decided enough is enough. I am taking the whole of next week off to spend some time with my family. That for sure will help me settle down a bit.

Also my little one is off to school on June 9th, there is no way I'll miss her first day at school. If you have to go by the father's genes, I can tell you she will cry like crazy :-)

It is quite curios that most kids who were extremely naughty in childhood usually turn out to be fairly meek as adults. Prime example being yours truly. Some examples of my work during childhood are below. All incidents happened when I was < 4 years old .

  • Falling down from a scooter and fracturing left hand
  • Smoking cigarette stubs picked up from sidewalk. And when my mom's friend found this out and told my mom, I threatened to kill her for ratting on me
  • Driving off in my 3 wheeled toy tractor behind people who came to collect garbage. When my mom finally noticed me missing and caught me, I had almost hit the main road
  • Walking around with Jacket unbuttoned claiming to be Amitabh Bachan
  • Locking my Mom inside the house by latching the door from outside and running off to play

Why do kids like these become much milder as they grow up? Is it because of constant criticism from family / friends / teachers  ? I don't know the answer.

Nice to be back home

Back in my hometown of Calicut for a 3 day weekend again, feels nice to be back. My little one has been circling in a 1 meter radius around me ever since I landed. :).She is growing up fast and I seem to be missing out on all the fun. At least I can meet her once or twice in a month.

I have to figure out a way of spending more time with her from now on. Tomorrow we are taking her for Kinder Garten admission .
